Academic Task 1: Group similar data points together in each paragraph to create a logical flow. For example, if describing a graph that shows both increases and decreases in different categories, devote one paragraph to the increases and another to the decreases.

Example:

  • Paragraph 1 (Increases): “The number of internet users in the USA increased steadily from 2000 to 2010, rising from 45% to 80%. Similarly, in the UK, internet usage grew from 50% to 85% over the same period.”
  • Paragraph 2 (Decreases): “In contrast, the number of telephone landline users decreased in both countries, falling from 60% to 35% in the USA and from 55% to 30% in the UK.”

General Training Task 1: In General Training Task 1, separate each bullet point in the task into its own paragraph. For example, if the task asks you to request information, describe a problem, and make a suggestion, each of these should have its own paragraph. This makes your letter easier to follow and ensures you address each part of the task.

Example:

  • Paragraph 1: “I am writing to inquire about the availability of conference rooms at your hotel.”
  • Paragraph 2: “During my last visit, I noticed that the Wi-Fi connection was quite slow, which caused issues during our meeting.”
  • Paragraph 3: “For my next booking, I would suggest that you provide a faster internet connection to improve the overall experience for business travelers.”
