The way you structure your paragraphs plays a huge role in coherence. The general rule is that each paragraph should contain one central idea, and the sentences within that paragraph should support or develop that idea. When you have multiple ideas within the same paragraph, it becomes disorganized and difficult to follow.
Example of Clear Paragraphing:
- First paragraph: Explain the problem with your purchase.
Example: “I recently purchased a laptop from your store. However, when I received it, the screen was cracked, and the keyboard was malfunctioning.”
- Second paragraph: Describe what steps you have already taken.
Example: “I immediately contacted customer service, and they told me to return the product. However, after sending the laptop back, I have not received any updates.”
- Third paragraph: State what you want the company to do.
Example: “I would like to request a replacement laptop or a full refund as soon as possible.”
