Problem 1: Overuse of Linking Words

One common issue is the overuse of cohesive devices like and, but, so. This makes writing feel robotic and unnatural. Linking words are important but should be used with care.

  • Example of Overuse: “First, I had issues with the delivery. Then, I had issues with the packaging. Moreover, I also had issues with customer service.”
  • Solution: “I had issues with both the delivery and the packaging. In addition, customer service has not been helpful.”

Problem 2: Repetition of Vocabulary

Repeating the same words throughout the letter can make your writing monotonous and reduce cohesion. Instead, use synonyms, pronouns, or paraphrasing to maintain variety.

  • Example of Repetition: “The service was bad. The service took too long, and the service did not resolve my issue.”
  • Solution: “The service was bad. It took too long, and the representative failed to resolve my issue.”

Problem 3: Lack of Clear Progression

Another common issue is jumping between ideas without clear progression. If the ideas don’t logically follow each other, the reader can get lost.

  • Example: “I ordered the product online. It was expensive. The delivery took too long. Can I get a refund?”
  • Solution: “I ordered the product online, but despite the high cost, the delivery took too long. Due to this inconvenience, I would like to request a refund.”
