• Appropriateness of Vocabulary: Word choice should be appropriate for the essay context, avoiding informal language in formal academic essays. For instance, “a lot of” could be replaced with “a significant amount” or “a considerable number.”
• Collocations: Correct use of common word combinations (collocations) enhances fluency. For instance, phrases like “play a vital role,” “pose a challenge,” or “address the issue” are examples of natural, academic collocations.
• Accuracy: Vocabulary use should be accurate, with correct spelling and meaning. Misusing words or selecting inappropriate words can obscure meaning and lead to confusion.
