Describe a friend who is different from you.

You should say:

  • Who this friend is
  • How they are different from you
  • How you became friends
  • And explain what you have learned from them.

One of my closest friends, Sara, is someone who is quite different from me in many ways, but our friendship has taught me a lot over the years. I first met Sara during university when we were assigned to the same study group, and despite our differences, we became fast friends.

One of the most obvious ways Sara differs from me is in her personality. She is extremely outgoing, loves socializing, and enjoys being the center of attention. In contrast, I am more introverted, and I prefer quiet gatherings or one-on-one conversations. Sara is also highly spontaneous and enjoys taking risks, whereas I tend to be more cautious and plan things in advance. These differences initially made me think we wouldn’t have much in common, but surprisingly, our friendship works because we balance each other out.

We became friends during a group project in our first year of university. I was focused on making sure everything was perfectly organized, while Sara brought energy and creativity to the table, coming up with innovative ideas that helped make our presentation stand out. Over time, we started hanging out more outside of class, and I realized that despite our different approaches to life, we had a lot of mutual respect for each other’s strengths.

What I have learned from Sara is to be more open to new experiences and not to overthink things too much. She has taught me how to embrace spontaneity and to enjoy the moment rather than always worrying about the future. I admire her ability to live life to the fullest and have fun in any situation, which has helped me step out of my comfort zone. I think our differences have helped us grow, and our friendship has become a valuable part of my life.
