Describe a friend you made in your childhood.

You should say:

  • Who this friend is
  • How you met
  • What activities you did together
  • And explain why this friendship is important to you.

One friend from my childhood who holds a special place in my heart is John. I met John when we were both about eight years old. We lived in the same neighborhood, so we’d often run into each other at the park, and that’s how we became friends. We instantly connected over our shared love for sports, particularly football, which we would play almost every afternoon after school.

John and I spent a lot of time together, whether it was playing video games, riding our bikes around the neighborhood, or just talking about school and life. I remember us building a treehouse in his backyard one summer, which took us weeks to complete. We worked together on it, and it became our secret hideout where we would spend hours just chatting or playing games. Another activity we enjoyed was fishing by the local pond. It wasn’t something we were very good at, but it was always fun trying, and those lazy afternoons are some of my fondest memories.

The reason why this friendship is so important to me is that John and I shared so many formative experiences that shaped my childhood. He was not just a friend but someone who supported me during difficult times. I remember when my family moved to a different city, and I was really upset about leaving him behind. We promised to stay in touch, and though we eventually grew apart due to distance, those memories have stayed with me.

In hindsight, John taught me a lot about loyalty and the value of true friendship. Even though we don’t speak much anymore, I still cherish the bond we had, and I know it helped shape the person I am today. Childhood friendships like ours are rare and precious, and I feel lucky to have had a friend like John during those years.
