• Look at his life in general: Even though he is asleep, driving a bus is his regular job, his permanent profession, and a general truth about his life. Therefore, we say: He drives a bus. He is a bus driver.

We use verbs like drive(s), work(s), do(es), and speak(s) in the Present Simple tense when we want to talk about permanent situations, daily routines, professional roles, or things that happen repeatedly over a long period of time.
