Carefully analyze the essay question: Before you start writing, ensure you fully understand what is being asked. Some tasks may require you to discuss both views and give your opinion, while others may ask you to explain causes and suggest solutions.

Example Task:

• Some people think that social media has had a negative impact on society. Others believe it has brought many benefits. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Common mistakes:

• Incorrect Approach: Focusing only on one view and ignoring the other part of the question. For example, only discussing the negative aspects of social media without addressing the positive side.
• Correct Approach: A balanced discussion of both positive and negative effects of social media, supported with relevant examples for each side, and then providing a clear opinion.

Example:

• Positive Aspect: “Social media has brought about unprecedented levels of communication, allowing people to stay in touch with friends and family regardless of distance.”
• Negative Aspect: “On the other hand, excessive use of social media can lead to addiction and mental health issues, particularly among younger users.”

Don’t overlook key instructions in the task: If the question asks for an opinion, make sure you give it clearly. If the question asks you to explain problems and suggest solutions, make sure you address both aspects fully.
