Tips for Band 7 and Above:

Skim for the main idea: Focus on the overall theme of each paragraph. Read the first sentence (topic sentence) and the last sentence (conclusion) of the paragraph to identify the main idea. Skimming helps you quickly determine the heading that best fits the section.

Example: 

If the heading is “The benefits of renewable energy,” look for a paragraph that discusses the advantages of renewable energy, rather than one that talks about its problems.

Avoid matching based on individual words: Some headings may contain words that also appear in the paragraph, but that doesn’t mean they are the correct match. Focus on the meaning rather than matching words. Ensure that the heading reflects the paragraph’s main idea, not just a small detail.

Look for common structures: Paragraphs that list advantages, disadvantages, or chronological events often have headings that follow a similar structure. Identifying this can help you match headings more efficiently.
