In Part 3, you must elaborate on your answers. Simple, short responses won’t give the examiner enough evidence to assess your higher-level language skills. Each response should last 30-40 seconds to fully develop your ideas.

 How to Practice:

• Practice developing ideas: When answering questions, always ask yourself “Why?” or “How?” to push yourself to give deeper, more detailed answers.
• Practice building explanations using connectors like “because,” “for example,” “in addition,” and “this is why.”

 Example:

• Question: “Why do people travel for leisure?”
• Answer: “People travel for leisure because it allows them to relax and take a break from their daily routines. For many, it’s a way to escape the stress of work and recharge. For example, some people go to the beach to enjoy the sun and peaceful environment, which helps them feel refreshed and ready to return to their responsibilities.”
